Vestibular Rehabilitation

Our physical therapists are experts at treating certain types of dizziness, especially vertigo. Vertigo is a spinning or tilting sensation which can be frightening and frustrating and is often caused by dysfunction in the inner ear, specifically the vestibular system. Common symptoms also include visual disturbances and imbalance with associated symptoms of nausea, difficulty concentrating and fatigue.

Center Rehab is an experienced provider of vestibular rehabilitation, which can successfully treat vertigo, reduce dizziness and improve your balance. Using specific exercises and self-management strategies, our specialty-trained physical therapists will help you to stabilize and alleviate symptoms.

Do I need vestibular rehab?

Nearly 40% of all adults will experience vertigo at least once in a lifetime. There are many different types of dizziness including vertigo, disequilibrium, pre-syncope, or lightheadedness. Some causes of dizziness need to be treated by a physician.

Research has indicated that physical therapy and vestibular rehab can be effective in treating:

  • Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV)

  • Labrynthitis/vestibular neuritis

  • Cervicogenic dizziness

  • Concussions

  • Vestibular migraines

  • Age-related dizziness & imbalance

Our program starts out with taking a detailed history and performing a comprehensive evaluation. Patients can expect their first session to be a full hour long evaluation of symptoms, history, triggers to their symptoms, medications, activity level and functional mobility issues. Any fall history will be fully discussed.
